PATA

The Seagate ATA100 250GB 7200RPM 8MB Barracuda 7200.8 [RTPE: ST3250823A] is going for a great price of about $80 after a $60 mail-in rebate. The Western Digital ATA100 320GB 7200RPM 8MB Caviar SE [RTPE: WD3200JB] is also at an exceptional price of $120 shipped; that's $0.38 per GB.

Currently priced at about $116 plus shipping, the Maxtor ATA100 300GB 7200RPM 16MB DiamondMax 10 [RTPE: 6L300R0] is also a great choice at $0.41 per GB. There are many other drives from which to choose that are going for roughly the same price. Although, do pay attention and try your very best to at least go with a drive that has an 8MB cache. One other thing is that many drives with a 16MB cache can also be had at prices near the same prices as drives with 8MBs of cache.

Mr. Farhan, why don't you include some laptop harddrive recommendations?

    an answer would be appreciated....

We have had many requests from our readers to include laptop hard drives in our storage price guides, while we are actually in the process of addressing this request by getting them added to the RTPE. Once the laptop hard drives are added to the RTPE, they will be included in our storage price guides from then on. The time frame for this project to be completed will be in about two to three months, so please bare with us.

We appreciate you taking the time to let us know what you would like to see in our price guides.

It's been a while since NEC ND-3550A DVD-RW replaced ND-3540, but still it isn't shown on the price guides. Is there any special reason for this?

I see that it hasn't been entered into the RTPE yet and that's why it isn't showing up in the price chart. I'll contact the RTPE Admin. and have him take care of that.

Thanks for pointing that out. =)
