16:9 ratio is terrible for productivity on a 13-inch laptop. also the huge bezels on this thing.
it's not like the hinge would be a negative on any laptop... but compare this to the XPS13, and look at the bezels... compare it to a macbook 12" and feel the weight.
There are many good choices out there, so the market will be picky.
I just prefer the smaller bezel for a bigger screen in the same form factor, on notebooks if you want the smaller bezels to reduce the actual size of the device we end up with a worse keyboard (that shouldn't be a compromise).
In fairness, if it's meant to be used as a tablet, which this is, it gives you something to hold on to without groping the touch screen.
I've been using the latest XPS 13 and XPS 15 and have been waiting for the Thinkpad refresh. I've got some time yet to decide whether to return my Dell. Hmm.
This device looks like the bezel is smaller than you'd get with a typical tablet. My big complain is "keyboard on the bottom in tablet mode" thing. Seriously...
"Yep - just bought latest XPS 13. I can not phantom why manufacturers insist on putting huge bezels on laptops"
Just bought a new Yoga 900 myself, and the tiny slim bezels on the XPS13s really made them a strong contender in my options. Bought the Yoga 900 because for same price as the XPS' i5 6200, 4GBs, and 128GB SSD, I got an i7 6500, 8GBs of RAM, and a 256GB SSD.
... except that this isn't a laptop like the XPS13, it is a convertible tablet like the XPS12... except with a larger display, smaller bezels, and an attached keyboard like the older version of the XPS12. If you ask me, this is a winner! Also, while I agree with desktop productivity, on a portable device the form factor does not matter quite as much. I mean, I would love to see a 4:3 or 16:10 laptop as much as the next guy, but even I understand that they are few and far between. If you want to sell a product in bulk, then you need a mainstream display form factor to work with, and 16:9 is where it is at right now.
agreed. even in the xps13 i would prefer a nice 16:10 display and here it's the same. it's a shame when even thinkpads, probably the most utilitarian notebooks ever, only come in 16:9 and you have to resort to a macbook of all things, if you want notebooks that use 16:10 quite consistently.
It CAN'T have the same thin bezels as the XPS13, as this is supposed to be used as a tablet. It's illogical for a tablet-like device to have that kind of bezel.
Although I kind of agree they should have made it 4:3.... I mean, the X1 tablet is already 4:3 they should have kept the X1 series uniform in that aspect, I guess?
Yes. I hope not. Pentile on a laptop form factor is going to look so bad. I can already imagine those god horrible green dots if it is a pentile layout.
Do Lenovo's touchpads work as clickpads, or would my only button options be using the ones on the wrong side of the pad or hoping the driver is smart enough to tell the difference between tapping on the pad to click and putting my finger on it in preparation for moving the cursor.
I have tap to click enabled on my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, and it works just fine. No issues with differentiating between tapping to click and to move the cursor.
Mark your calendars boys, this is historic. Sad for the aspect ratio, we need to ditch 16:9 in favor of 3:2, movies should also comply to 3:2 or at max 16:10.
i heard even some galaxy s6 suffer from burn in on the notification bar after less than one year, so as cool a oled on a laptop sounds at first, it could have pretty much the same problem.
I work in electronics retail, and the original Tab S demo units that we had (running a demo loop, not just the same home screen all the time) had horrible burn-in issues after less than a year. Text elements from the demo, home screen icons, and other semi-static content burnt in in pretty bad ways. This was with the units running the loop 24/7, though, so with running 8hr/day or something similar you'd probably get farther than that. But it will DEFINITELY happen.
Even with this issue, this is an extremely tempting laptop. 1.27kg for a 14" convertible? That's lighter than my old X201. With pen support, U-series CPUs and loads of bells and whistles (including spill-resistance, hooray!), this looks sweet. Although the lack of Thunderbolt 3 is a serious bummer.
yep, i would hate for my gpu to have to crunch extra hard to render all those pixels (something like 3.6m instead of 2.1m at 1080p) and then throw 1/3 of the subpixels, and hence definition, out of the window.
Dangit Lenovo, stop making nice things! This would make a great upgrade over my original Thinkpad Yoga, but that money is earmarked for VR equipment. Hopefully there OLED panel survives for the 2017 Thinkpad Yoga.
Yeah, lots of sites mistakenly write that this thing has Ethernet. Uh, no. It has Ethernet just like how the MacBook 2015 has Ethernet....with an adapter.
Nice to finally have NVMe speeds on workstations, however No Thunderbolt = No professional Audio (because of latency and soundcard connector versatily).

not to undermine how great OLED will be on a laptop.... I'd buy this thing if it had small bezels and a squarer aspect ratio.8steve8 - Sunday, January 3, 2016 - link
Since I can't edit, i'll add another thought as a reply...Small bezels aren't just about how it looks... it's about having a smaller footprint for the device... being able to fit in smaller bags and such.
Or, take it the other direction and you can fit a significantly bigger screen in the same footprint.
If they simply had a uniform width bezel, say the width it is on the left and right, the aspect ratio would be squarer, and we'd be in business.

NVMe doesn't mean speed. Look at the Surface Book's "NVMe SSD" that has slower slower sequential writes than an iPhone 6.NVMe is already becoming a buzzword...
